The ComMarker B4 is a 20W fiber laser engraver and works with EzCad2, LightBurn. This page lists 40 community-tested settings covering speed, power, passes, air assist, and DPI across a range of materials. Always run a test cut on scrap material first — results vary depending on your material batch, focus, and ambient conditions.
The ComMarker B4 is a 20W fiber laser (MOPA modulated) offering colour marking on stainless steel as well as standard metal marking — stainless, brass, copper, aluminium, titanium — at a lower price point than the xTool F1. MOPA modulation allows pulse-width control for more colour and depth options than standard fiber. Used for jewellery, knives, tumblers, and metal business cards. A popular alternative for budget-conscious metal marking.
Should you buy the ComMarker B4?
Best for: Jewellers and metal markers who want colour on stainless steel. MOPA fiber adds pulse-width control the xTool F1 can't match.
Skip if: You only mark plain bare metals occasionally — the xTool F1 is faster to set up at lower price.

Removes powder coat to expose bare steel underneath. Slightly defocus (+2mm) for cleaner coating ablation on curved objects. Consistent results across most powder coat brands. Based on LightBurn forum painted tumbler thread and general MOPA coated metal guidance. | Freq: 40kHz, pulse: 100ns, line interval: 0.05mm
Titaniummark
Speed200 mm/sPower35%Passes2
★★★★★
Annealing produces vivid colors on titanium. Low power + high frequency + short pulse = stable oxide colors. Real-world forum data (Tykma 20W): 200mm/s, 35%, 125kHz, .02 line spacing, 2 passes. Colors vary by exact settings — run a frequency/power test tile first. | Freq: 125kHz, pulse: 20ns, line interval: 0.02mm
Coppermark
Speed200 mm/sPower90%Passes2
★★★★★
Copper is highly reflective at 1064nm — 20W is marginal. Run at maximum power, slow speed, multiple passes. Result may be shallow or inconsistent; copper engraving is more reliable at 50W+. Based on heatsign guide + community notes. | Freq: 30kHz, pulse: 200ns, line interval: 0.04mm
Brassmark
Speed500 mm/sPower70%Passes1
★★★★★
Brass absorbs 1064nm well. No air assist to avoid discoloration. Starting point for surface contrast mark. Deep engraving requires many more passes (see 60W forum data — scale up passes for 20W). Based on omglaser.com brass settings scaled for 20W. | Freq: 45kHz, pulse: 100ns, line interval: 0.04mm
Black Anodized Aluminummark
Speed2000 mm/sPower100%Passes1
★★★★★
White/light mark on black anodize. Short pulse + high frequency key for contrast without charring. 30W reference from barchlaser.com scaled down for 20W (reduce speed by ~25%). Very common for dog tags and ID plates. | Freq: 55kHz, pulse: 4ns, line interval: 0.04mm
Anodized Aluminummark
Speed1500 mm/sPower80%Passes1
★★★★★
MOPA short pulse (4–20 ns) at high frequency ablates anodize without burning base aluminum. High speed avoids heat buildup. Based on barchlaser.com MOPA aluminum black settings and heatsign.com MOPA anodized aluminum guide. | Freq: 60kHz, pulse: 4ns, line interval: 0.05mm
For deeper mechanical removal rather than surface oxide. Slower speed + lower frequency for more aggressive ablation. Based on barchlaser.com 20W settings and community scaling from 30W data. | Freq: 20kHz, pulse: 200ns, line interval: 0.03mm
Produces a dark oxide mark. Lower frequency (20–30 kHz) gives darker result. ComMarker official material settings page + LightBurn forum confirmation. Run a material test grid before production. | Freq: 25kHz, pulse: 200ns, line interval: 0.054mm
What materials can the ComMarker B4 engrave or cut?
The ComMarker B4 has community-tested settings for Stainless Steel Knife Blade, Carbon Steel, Bare Aluminum, Slate, Black Oxide Stainless Steel, Aluminum Dog Tag, Aluminum Keychain, Stainless Steel Keychain, and 18 more. Results vary by material batch, focus, and ambient conditions — always test on scrap first.
Is the ComMarker B4 compatible with LightBurn?
Yes, the ComMarker B4 works natively with LightBurn, as well as EzCad2.
Can the ComMarker B4 mark bare metal without any coating?
Yes. Fiber lasers mark stainless steel, brass, copper, titanium, and anodized aluminium directly — no Cermark or marking spray needed. This is the main advantage of fiber over CO₂ or diode machines for metal personalisation.
