The Atomstack A20 Pro is a 20W diode laser engraver and works with LightBurn. This page lists 91 community-tested settings covering speed, power, passes, air assist, and DPI across a range of materials. Always run a test cut on scrap material first — results vary depending on your material batch, focus, and ambient conditions.
The Atomstack A20 Pro is a 20W open-frame diode laser with a 400×400mm work area. It is a mid-range choice for crafters who have outgrown entry-level machines and want more cutting power without moving to CO₂. Works with LightBurn. Good for wood, leather, slate, and 3mm acrylic cutting.
Should you buy the Atomstack A20 Pro?
Best for: Mid-range diode users moving past entry-level. 20W cuts 3mm basswood, 400×400mm bed, LightBurn-compatible at a competitive price.
Skip if: You want an enclosed laser for fume safety, or you regularly cut anything thicker than 5mm wood.

Generic plywood cut — 2 passes for cleaner edge. Pin material flat to avoid shift between passes. Actual passes depend on plywood thickness and glue density.
Apply Cermark or black Molybdenum spray before engraving. Wash residue with water after. Without coating, diode lasers cannot mark bare stainless steel.
2mm basswood cuts in a single pass on most diode lasers. Air assist keeps the cut clean and reduces char.
Spray Painted Metalengrave
Speed2800 mm/minPower75%Passes1DPI254
Ablates spray paint to reveal bare metal. Thinner than powder coat so needs less power. Reduce power if paint splatters. Clean with IPA first.
Powder Coated Steelengrave
Speed2500 mm/minPower80%Passes1DPI254
Ablates powder coat to expose bare metal. Clean with IPA first. Black powder coat gives highest contrast. No Cermark needed.
Coated / Powder Coated Steelengrave
Speed2500 mm/minPower80%Passes1DPI254
Ablates powder coat to reveal bare metal beneath. Works on powder coated panels, signs, and flat stock. Clean with IPA first. Black powder coat gives highest contrast. No Cermark needed — laser burns off the coating directly.
3mm Mirrored Acrylic

Engrave from the BACK side for a clean mirrored result.
Same laser module as X20 Pro. Atomstack officially lists cardboard as a supported cut material for the A20 Pro/X20 Pro/S20 Pro family. Community guidance from lahobbyguy.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=33 and diode-laser-wiki.com is consistent across 20W diode laser brands. 800mm/min at 50% power is a reliable community starting point for standard corrugated cardboard.
Identical laser module to X20 Pro. LA Hobby Guy forum (lahobbyguy.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=4458 'cut and print settings Atomstack A20 pro') confirms A20 Pro users see similar MDF cutting behavior. One user reported 100mm/min at 100% power for 1 pass; 200mm/min / 2 passes with air assist is the more community-standard approach for cleaner results.
Same laser module as X20 Pro; same community settings apply. Atomstack officially lists slate as an engravable material for the A20 Pro. Source: lahobbyguy.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=2916 and forum.lightburnsoftware.com/t/lightburn-grayscale-engraving-on-slate-using-lasermatic-mk2-20w-diode-laser/171784 (LaserMatic 20W diode, same power class).
Same settings as X20 Pro — identical laser module. Source: lahobbyguy.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=10243 and general 20W diode community guidance. Atomstack officially lists leather as an engravable material for the A20 Pro. Vegetable-tanned leather recommended; chrome-tanned leather releases toxic fumes.
A20 Pro shares identical 20W optical output with X20 Pro; same community settings apply. Atomstack officially lists 'aluminum oxide' as an engravable material for both machines. Source: forum.lightburnsoftware.com/t/need-some-speed-power-settings-for-atomstack-a20-pro/107898 and general 20W diode community guidance at lahobbyguy.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=33.
Same official Atomstack engraving parameter table applies to A20 Pro as to X20 Pro. Line interval 0.1mm, 3000mm/min, 20% max power. Source: atomstackshop.com/blogs/engraving-and-cutting-parameter/lightburn-x20-pro-engraving-parameter-table and atomstack.com/pages/material-setting.
A20 Pro, X20 Pro, and S20 Pro share identical 20W optical output and the same official parameter tables per Atomstack. Settings transfer directly. LA Hobby Guy forum (lahobbyguy.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=4458 and t=3572) confirms A20 Pro users use similar 300mm/min / 90% settings for 3mm basswood. Air assist (F30/F60 kit) strongly recommended for clean cuts.
What materials can the Atomstack A20 Pro engrave or cut?
The Atomstack A20 Pro has community-tested settings for Kraft Paper, Cardstock, Paper, Coated Stainless Steel Tumbler, Plywood, Anodized Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Glass, and 39 more. Results vary by material batch, focus, and ambient conditions — always test on scrap first.
Is the Atomstack A20 Pro compatible with LightBurn?
Yes, the Atomstack A20 Pro works natively with LightBurn.
What settings should I use to cut Kraft Paper on the Atomstack A20 Pro?
A community-tested starting point is speed 2500 mm/min, power 22% in a single pass. Always run a test cut on scrap to confirm before committing to your project.
Can the Atomstack A20 Pro engrave metal?
Diode lasers can mark anodized aluminium, coated metals, and powder-coated surfaces without any spray. For bare steel, brass, or copper you need a marking compound like Cermark or Dry Moly. Fiber lasers mark bare metal directly without any coating.
