The Atomstack A20 Pro is a 20W diode laser engraver and works with LightBurn. This page lists 91 community-tested settings covering speed, power, passes, air assist, and DPI across a range of materials. Always run a test cut on scrap material first — results vary depending on your material batch, focus, and ambient conditions.

The Atomstack A20 Pro is a 20W open-frame diode laser with a 400×400mm work area. It is a mid-range choice for crafters who have outgrown entry-level machines and want more cutting power without moving to CO₂. Works with LightBurn. Good for wood, leather, slate, and 3mm acrylic cutting.

Should you buy the Atomstack A20 Pro?

Best for: Mid-range diode users moving past entry-level. 20W cuts 3mm basswood, 400×400mm bed, LightBurn-compatible at a competitive price.

Skip if: You want an enclosed laser for fume safety, or you regularly cut anything thicker than 5mm wood.

Generic plywood cut — 2 passes for cleaner edge. Pin material flat to avoid shift between passes. Actual passes depend on plywood thickness and glue density.

Buy Plywood
Anodized Aluminumengrave
Speed1500 mm/minPower70–80%Passes1DPI400

Higher DPI for fine text and logos on anodized aluminum. Slower speed with lower power gives crisper edges.

Buy Anodized Aluminum
Anodized Aluminumengrave
Speed2000 mm/minPower60–75%Passes1DPI300

Diode lasers mark anodized aluminum directly by ablating the dye layer. No coating needed. Keep power moderate to avoid overburning.

Buy Anodized Aluminum
Stainless Steelmark
Speed400 mm/minPower90–100%Passes1

Slower pass for deeper Cermark bond on stainless. Multiple thin coats of spray gives better adhesion.

Buy Stainless Steel
Stainless Steelmark

2mm basswood cuts in a single pass on most diode lasers. Air assist keeps the cut clean and reduces char.

Spray Painted Metalengrave
Speed2800 mm/minPower75%Passes1DPI254

Ablates spray paint to reveal bare metal. Thinner than powder coat so needs less power. Reduce power if paint splatters. Clean with IPA first.

Powder Coated Steelengrave
Speed2500 mm/minPower80%Passes1DPI254

Ablates powder coat to expose bare metal. Clean with IPA first. Black powder coat gives highest contrast. No Cermark needed.

Coated / Powder Coated Steelengrave
Speed2500 mm/minPower80%Passes1DPI254

Ablates powder coat to reveal bare metal beneath. Works on powder coated panels, signs, and flat stock. Clean with IPA first. Black powder coat gives highest contrast. No Cermark needed — laser burns off the coating directly.
