The xTool S1 20W is a 20W diode laser engraver with a 498×330mm work area. This page lists 55 community-tested settings covering speed, power, passes, air assist, and DPI across a range of materials. Always run a test cut on scrap material first — results vary depending on your material batch, focus, and ambient conditions.
The xTool S1 20W is the entry-spec version of xTool's fully enclosed diode laser. It shares the S1's enclosed lid, built-in air assist, camera-based material positioning, and LightBurn compatibility — at a lower price than the 40W model. At 20W it cuts 3mm basswood in a single pass and handles wood, leather, acrylic, and slate reliably for everyday craft and Etsy use. The enclosed design makes it home-safe without the ventilation demands of open-frame machines. A strong first enclosed laser for anyone upgrading from a Cricut or open-frame diode.
Best for: Home crafters who want an enclosed, safe all-rounder at the lower S1 price. Full LightBurn support, camera alignment, built-in air assist.
Skip if: You do heavy cutting regularly — upgrade to the S1 40W for meaningfully faster single-pass cuts on thicker material.
