The OMTech 60W CO2 is a 60W co2 laser engraver and works with LightBurn. This page lists 125 community-tested settings covering speed, power, passes, air assist, and DPI across a range of materials. Always run a test cut on scrap material first — results vary depending on your material batch, focus, and ambient conditions.
The OMTech 60W CO₂ is a workhorse machine popular with small laser-cutting businesses. The 400×600mm work area and 60W tube allow single-pass cutting of 10mm plywood and 8mm acrylic, making it capable of production-level throughput. LightBurn compatible. Widely used for custom signage, personalised gifts, and laser-cut product lines. A reliable middle ground between hobby lasers and industrial machines.
Ceramic tile CO2 engrave — use white tile method (coat with white spray paint) or Cermark for best results. Bare tile requires high power and may crack.
9mm birch engraves cleanly. For deeper relief reduce speed or raise power.
9mm Birch Plywoodcut
Speed7 mm/sPower65%Passes2
💨 Air Assist
9mm birch requires many passes on diode — CO2 is recommended at this thickness. Pin material flat. Air assist on all passes.
5mm Plywoodengrave
Speed200 mm/sPower16%Passes1DPI300
5mm plywood engraves well. Deeper relief: reduce speed or increase power slightly.
5mm Plywoodcut
Speed15 mm/sPower50%Passes1
💨 Air Assist
5mm plywood requires multiple passes on diode — pin material flat between passes. Air assist essential.
2mm Basswood Plywoodengrave
Speed500 mm/sPower8%Passes1DPI300
2mm basswood engraves with deep contrast. 300 DPI is the sweet spot — higher increases burn time significantly.
2mm Basswood Plywoodcut
Speed40 mm/sPower25%Passes1
💨 Air Assist
2mm basswood cuts in a single pass on most diode lasers. Air assist keeps the cut clean and reduces char.
6mm Clear Acrylicengrave
Speed150 mm/sPower18%Passes1DPI300
CO2 wavelength is absorbed by clear acrylic — diode lasers pass straight through. Keep power low for engrave to avoid melt.
6mm Clear Acryliccut
Speed10 mm/sPower60%Passes1
💨 Air Assist
6mm clear acrylic needs more power than 3mm. Air assist essential to prevent melt-back. Cast acrylic gives polished flame-cut edges.
3mm Tinted Acryliccut
Speed25 mm/sPower52%Passes1
💨 Air Assist
Tinted acrylic cuts cleaner than clear on diode lasers because the pigment absorbs the beam. Air assist prevents melt-back.
3mm Tinted Acrylicengrave
Speed180 mm/sPower16%Passes1DPI300
Tinted acrylic engraves cleanly — pigment absorbs the beam well. Adjust power for contrast.
Spray Painted Metalengrave
Speed450 mm/minPower35%Passes1
Ablates spray paint to reveal bare metal. Thinner than powder coat so needs less power. Reduce power if paint splatters. Clean with IPA first.
Powder Coated Steelengrave
Speed400 mm/minPower40%Passes1
Ablates powder coat to expose bare metal. Clean with IPA first. No Cermark needed. For bare steel, use fiber laser settings instead.
Coated / Powder Coated Steelengrave
Speed400 mm/minPower40%Passes1
Ablates powder coat to reveal bare metal beneath. Works on powder coated flat stock and signs. Clean with IPA first. Black powder coat gives highest contrast. No Cermark needed for powder coat removal. For bare steel marking, fiber laser settings apply instead.
3mm Mirrored Acrylic
Speed460Passes1DPI300
Engrave from the BACK side for a clean mirrored result.
OMTech official documentation for 60W (Pronto series): 200–250 mm/s, 18% power, 0.08 mm line interval. Higher wattage allows faster speed at same or lower power vs 40W. Black anodize preferred; clear anodize typically needs marking spray with CO2. Source: help.omtech.com/en/training-center/metal-processing + omtech.com/blogs/tips/how-to-engrave-metal-with-co2-laser
Good relief depth on photopolymer at 60W. Start conservative — photopolymer can melt rather than ablate at too-high power. Test on off-cuts first. Invert design.
12mm MDFcut
Speed7 mm/sPower75%Passes2
💨 Air Assist★★★★★
12mm MDF at 60W needs 2 passes. Very heavy fumes — strong ventilation essential. Refocus between passes for best edge quality.

Dense hardwood. Higher power than basswood. Beautiful results for premium products.
What materials can the OMTech 60W CO2 engrave or cut?
The OMTech 60W CO2 has community-tested settings for Cardboard, Kraft Paper, Cardstock, Paper, Ceramic Tile, Plywood, 3mm Black Acrylic, 3mm MDF, and 55 more. Results vary by material batch, focus, and ambient conditions — always test on scrap first.
Is the OMTech 60W CO2 compatible with LightBurn?
Yes, the OMTech 60W CO2 works natively with LightBurn.
What settings should I use to cut Cardboard on the OMTech 60W CO2?
A community-tested starting point is speed 100 mm/s, power 15% in a single pass. Always run a test cut on scrap to confirm before committing to your project.
What can a CO₂ laser like the OMTech 60W CO2 cut that a diode laser cannot?
CO₂ lasers can cut and engrave clear acrylic, glass (with care), fabric, and thicker wood more cleanly than diode lasers, because the CO₂ wavelength is absorbed by materials that are transparent to diode light. This makes the OMTech 60W CO2 more versatile for craft and production use.
