The xTool S1 40W is a 40W diode laser engraver with a 498×319mm work area and works with xTool Creative Space, LightBurn. This page lists 36 community-tested settings covering speed, power, passes, air assist, and DPI across a range of materials. Always run a test cut on scrap material first — results vary depending on your material batch, focus, and ambient conditions.
The xTool S1 40W is the higher-power version of xTool's enclosed diode laser, offering significantly more cutting speed and depth than the 20W model. It cuts 6mm basswood and 3mm Baltic birch in a single pass and engraves at up to 8000mm/min. Like the 20W, it is fully enclosed with built-in air assist and a camera for material alignment. The 40W makes it a credible alternative to a small CO₂ laser for wood, leather, and slate, while remaining compact enough for home use.
